S-Club+ Sessions

S-Club+ sessions will engage young adults in the next stages of life, developing their social, emotional and personal journey. Please see below for details on how to get involved!

What are S-Club+ sessions?

S-Club+ An exciting new opportunity for young adults aged 19-25

From January 2025 we are creating a new group for our young adults, to better meet their needs and to create a more engaging and age-appropriate experience. This will involve three monthly evening social sessions supported by our staff, at MCSC or within the community. We want our new offer for young people aged 19-25 to be led and developed by the young people themselves. At the first evening session (a social evening at MCSC) we will support the YP to make decisions about what they want the rest of the social sessions to involve. We also want them to debate and decide on the crucial focus of the half-term smiLE sessions. We can then offer truly bespoke sessions based on our YP’s specific needs and wishes. We are also hoping that our YP may be interested in setting up a 21T Youth Council to advocate for themselves within the charity and within the wider community.

Additionally, we will be running three days of intensive smILE therapy sessions during February half-term. These will focus on independent living skills, supporting our young adults to make appropriate and safe choices in adulthood and to advocate for themselves. smILE is designed to equip young people who have communication difficulties with the skills to independently and confidently interact in everyday mainstream community settings.

Why do young people with Down’s syndrome need these groups?

Young people with Down’s syndrome are showing the world how much they can achieve given the right support. Saying that, our young people still struggle with low expectations of what they can achieve. Using a syndrome specific approach our highly skilled staff can help the young adults express themselves to the best of their ability, whilst facilitating appropriate social and behavioural responses to new social situations. The young adults will explore their own identities and how they interact with the world around them. How young people manage social situations, relationships and challenges is key in enabling them to access their communities and build meaningful relationships with those around them. Our young people have the same range of emotions as all young adults, it is truly vital that we give them the opportunities to work through these emotions in a safe space with their peers and staff to support them.

Is there any cost?

21 Together are passionate about providing these sessions. We very heavily subsidise the sessions. To make the groups viable in the long term, we do ask families for a minimum donation for each session, which is payable in advance for each block of sessions. As always, if you feel for whatever reason that this cost would mean a young person could not attend, we would urge you to contact us as we have financial support available to those that need it.

Evening social sessions: £15 per session

Intensive smiLE Workshops: £105 for all three days (cannot be purchased separately.)
